Register of Deeds

Responsibilities

The Register of Deeds is an elected official and is required by the Laws of the State of Kansas to record all documents that are qualified to be recorded. This office maintains and preserves accurate records for the citizens of Wichita County. We keep daily record of all the transactions and UCC’s recorded and filed in this office.

The Register of Deeds office records many different kinds of documents. Some examples are deeds, mortgages, oil & gas leases, military discharges, power of attorneys, cemetery deeds and many others.

All records in the office are required by law to be open to the public for inspection during regular business hours except information on the Sales Validation Questionnaire and Military Discharge.

All fees collected by the Register of Deeds office are set by the state statue. These fees must be paid at the time of recording. At the close of each month all fees collected are deposited into the county general fund.

The office is here to assist you in any way we can. We will do our best to provide the information you request if possible. If we cannot we will suggest other sources of information that may be useful.
