Santa Medallion Hunt

Week

#2

Clues

We thought we had everyone stumped, but the Chidesters' prevailed again. They found the medallion at 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 14th, one week after the clues were posted.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

With these clues the medallion you’ll spy.

All the characters in the Wizard of Oz,

Gave Dorothy Gale reason to pause.

We hope our clues don’t cause the same,

For our hunters in this little game.

Munchkins, witches and winged monkeys,

Made the whole tale just a little funky.

Our clues would cause the scarecrow great pain,

“If I only had a brain,” he would exclaim.

This hunt would fill the cowardly lion with fright,

Even though the area is light by day and by night.

Without a heart, the tin man was hollow,

The yellow brick road the group did follow.

But no paved road will lead your way,

To the prize placed within public right-of-way.

Ruby Slippers would be a great deal,

If you could find the stash by clicking your heel.

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly,

And somewhere under foot, the prize does lie.

When you figure out Dorothy’s killer ride,

You’ll know the location of this week’s hide.

To be successful we do suspect,

That upon these clues you need to reflect,

If the medallion you wish to detect.

One final thought for those who roam,

There really is no place like home!

Explanation:

Of course, the obvious is that all of the clues are about the ‘Wizard of Oz’.  The key clues hidden within the rhyme were:

-“Even though the area is light by day and by night” – the medallion was hidden underneath a street light, so the area was lighted by the sun during the day and by the street light at night.

-“No paved road will lead your way” – the streets at the intersection where the medallion was hidden were not paved, which narrowed the search.

-“To the prize hidden within public right-of-way” – the medallion was hidden at the corner of a block under a street light and street sign, which is within the public right-of-way.

-“And somewhere under foot, the prize does lie” – tells that the medallion was hidden low to the ground.

-“Upon these clues you need to reflect” – hints that the medallion was attached to a reflector.

-“When you figure out Dorothy’s killer ride” – this is the real clue to the location of the medallion.  Dorothy’s ride was a tornado, and a killer tornado is an F5.  The medallion was hidden at the base of the street light which has the street signs of F Street and 5th Street attached to it.
